Exploring Leader Training

Training is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. The important Scouting position you hold will be easier and more effective once you develop the skills necessary to deliver a quality Scouting program. Every Scout deserves a trained leader.

Exploring Leaders are considered trained once they have completed:

  1. Youth Protection Training online at My.Scouting.org, and
  2. Exploring Basic Leader Training online at My.Scouting.org

Youth Protection Training (YPT) is required for all new registered leaders and must be retaken every two years to maintain registration. Youth safety is the number one concern of Learning for Life. To increase awareness of the societal problem of child abuse, including sexual abuse, and to create even greater barriers to child abuse than currently exist, Learning for Life has implemented enhanced Youth Protection policies. Every registered leader must take Youth Protection Training online at My.Scouting.org. A login is required, but anyone may create a user account and view the courses. Registered members of the BSA may provide their member numbers (as part of the user profile) to receive credit.

Exploring Leader Specific Training provides the specialized knowledge a new leader needs to assume a leadership role and may be taken online at My.Scouting.org.
